Meet the Team: Steve Moore, Marketing Manager

Steve Moore, Marketing Manager Wilks & Flexiteek

Meet Steve Moore, our Marketing Manager here at Wilks.

Tell us about your background. What did you do before joining the Wilks team?

Before I joined the business I was a freelance marketing consultant for nearly ten years working with over 50 companies, charities and education organisations. Before that I was marketing director at Regus, BEOffices, Curry’s and Habitat.

How long have you worked here?

I joined the business at the end of September 2022 at a busy time in the lead up to the distributor meeting in Sneek and METSTRADE, my first boat show.

Tell us about a typical day – what does your job involve?

A typical day is driven by the marketing plan really. We have mapped out all our activity to support brand development and growing leads across all territories. To help strengthen our market position we are working with distributors to improve our visibility on Google and Bing around the world and we are also updating lots of branded elements like the websites, brochures and advertising. A big part of my role is to maximise the opportunity to develop leads through the global boat shows.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Two days are never the same and I love talking to the distributor family around the world. You are never too old to learn, and this role has provided lots of opportunities to learn new things and meet new people. Plus I think the time flies here as we are so busy.

What would you say the most significant achievement at Wilks has been so far?

I loved delivering the distributor meeting last November in The Netherlands. I was thrown in at the deep end to host the event and had an absolute blast. I’m also delighted at the improvement in global website ranking we’ve achieved through the SEO work we’ve done as a team.

What do you do in your spare time?

I live in Suffolk, in a 320 year old barn which is on the national heritage register because its so rare. So that comes with some responsibility and I have planted 30 trees to create a woodland garden so that takes up lots of my time.

I have a marketing and sustainability blog (www.neathouse.co.uk) and also write for a number of publications like Marketing Week, The Metro, The Standard and others in the UK.

I’m also a registered mentor with the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the UK, working with marketing people all around the world to help them with their professional development.
