Marine Fendering for Broom Boats Explorer

Broom Boats approached Wilks to design and manufacture a custom profile for their latest large river cruiser, the Broom Boats Explorer.

They required a heavy-duty fender to fit around the gunwale and transom of the leisure cruiser to provide impact protection throughout the busy holiday seasons. The profile also had to deliver in appearance, offering a modern and streamlined finish complementing the overall look and finish of the cruiser’s luxury styling.

Working with Broom Boats, a heavy-duty B fender was designed, featuring separate internal channels for a fixing strip and a ribbon insert. The 35 x 5mm fixing strip was incorporated to provide extra support to the fender while acting as a continuous washer. The fastenings are then concealed under a ribbon insert to provide a smart, sleek look.

With the aid of the Fanuc CNC Robocut, our toolmakers quickly created the tooling required to provide prototypes for Broom Boats approval. Once approved, the final fender was manufactured in 5m lengths as per the customer’s specifications.

The tooling is now held in our extensive archive of over 1500 extrusion dies, allowing for tried and tested impact protection to be manufactured quickly for all marine customers (subject to minimum order quantities).

The PVC 2578 used for the Broom Boats Explorer is available with a minimum order run of 100m.
